Janakulu is a free community board for Perdoor, Udupi. People use it to sell things and to find local services such as autos, buses, shops and clinics. This page explains what information the site collects, why, who else handles it, how long it is kept and how you can have it deleted. It is written to follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Who runs Janakulu
Janakulu is run by an individual in Perdoor, Udupi district, Karnataka, India. Contact for anything about your data: maheshkulal547@gmail.com.
What we collect, and why
| Information | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| What you post: title, description, price, quantity, area, map location, photos, opening hours, offer text | To show your post | Everyone |
| Phone / WhatsApp number on a post or service | So buyers and customers can contact you | Everyone |
| Google sign-in: your name, email address and profile picture | To create your account, let you manage your posts from any phone and reduce fake posts. (Admins sign in with an email and password instead.) | Your name and picture are shown on your posts. Your email is never shown. |
| Optional profile details: about, area, phone | Your public seller profile | Everyone (your phone only if you tick "Show my phone") |
| Counts of how often a post was opened or its WhatsApp / Call button was pressed | Shown to the person who made the post | Only that person (and admins) |
| Reports on posts or profiles (the reason you pick and any note) | To check and remove bad posts and accounts | Admins only. Reports do not record who sent them. |
| Promotion payments: which post, how many days, amount, date, and the Razorpay order and payment IDs | To run the promotion you paid for, and to keep accounts as the law requires | You and admins. Card, UPI and bank details go straight to Razorpay; we never see or store them. |
Photos are re-saved by your own browser before upload, which removes hidden camera and location data (EXIF) from them.
We do not collect your date of birth, address, ID documents, or card / UPI / bank details, and we do not track you across other websites.
Age
You must be 18 or older to sign in, post or add a service. You confirm this when you sign in and when you post. We do not knowingly collect personal data of anyone under 18. If you believe a child has posted, use the 🚩 Report button or email us and we will delete it.
Who else handles the data (service providers)
- Supabase: stores the database, photos and sign-in accounts. Its servers may be outside India.
- Google: only if you choose "Continue with Google", to sign you in.
- Razorpay: only if you pay to promote a post. Razorpay handles the payment and receives the details you enter there (for example UPI ID, card or phone number), under its own privacy policy.
- Hostinger: hosts the website files. Like every web host, it handles your IP address when pages load.
- OpenStreetMap: when a map is shown, your browser loads map pictures from OpenStreetMap, which receives your IP address. When you pick a spot on the map, its coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to look up the place name.
- WhatsApp, Google Maps and your phone app: only when you tap a WhatsApp, Directions or Call button. You then leave Janakulu and their own policies apply.
Fonts and code libraries are served from our own site, so no font or code provider sees your visit. There is no advertising and no analytics or tracking tool. We do not sell or rent personal data.
How long we keep it
- Posts stop being shown when their time ends (30 days on the free plan, longer on Pro). They stay in Profile so you can renew them, until you delete them or delete your account.
- Services, your profile and your account stay until you delete them, or until an admin removes them for breaking the rules.
- When you delete your account, your posts, services, photos and profile are deleted straight away. Backups kept by our database provider are overwritten in the normal course.
- Payment records are kept for as long as Indian tax law requires (up to 8 years), but they are no longer linked to your account after you delete it.
Your rights, and how to delete your data
- See or correct: open Profile or My profile to see and edit what you posted.
- Delete one post: use Manage → Delete on the post.
- Delete everything: signed in, open Profile → Edit profile and tap Delete my account at the bottom. This removes your posts, services, photos, profile and sign-in account, and cannot be undone.
- Posted without signing in? Your posts are linked to this browser. Delete them from Profile on the same phone, or email us the post link.
- By email: write to maheshkulal547@gmail.com from the email you sign in with, saying what you want seen, corrected or deleted. We reply within 15 days.
- You can also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
